"I have 15,000 followers and almost no clients" is one of the most common things I hear from coaches and consultants before we start working together. A following is attention, not revenue. The gap between the two is almost always a missing funnel, not a content problem.
Followers are cold. Your DMs are warm. Ads should bridge the two.
Organic content helps people get to know your offer, but many followers will not be ready to enquire after seeing one post. Meta Ads can help you reconnect with people who have already shown interest, such as profile visitors, video viewers, past website visitors, or an opted-in customer list.
Build the filter before you build the ad
The single biggest lever isn't the ad creative — it's the landing page the ad points to. A generic "book a call" page attracts generic leads, including people who were never going to buy and just wanted a free consultation. A page that's specific about who the offer is for, what it costs to work with you, and what change it actually produces does the opposite: it filters out poor-fit leads before they ever land in your calendar, so the leads you do get convert at a much higher rate.
The ad structure that actually works
- Retargeting first, cold reach second. Start by running ads to warm audiences — website visitors, video viewers, Instagram engagers — before spending on cold reach. This is usually where the first real ROAS shows up.
- One offer, one ad set, one clear next step. Mixing multiple offers in one campaign makes it harder for Meta's delivery algorithm to optimise, and harder for a prospect to know what to do next.
- Advantage+ once you have signal. Once your pixel has enough conversion data, Meta's automated targeting usually outperforms manual audience building — but it needs real events to learn from first.
Cheap leads aren't the goal — qualified ones are
If your cost per lead looks great but your close rate is terrible, you're not running a bad ad — you're running a magnet instead of a filter. It's a fixable problem: tighten the ad copy and landing page to speak directly to your ideal client's specific situation, and expect your CPL to rise slightly as your close rate rises a lot more. Chasing the lowest CPL number in isolation is one of the most common ways this kind of campaign gets optimised into the ground.
Close the loop with follow-up, not hope
A lead that doesn't get a response within minutes cools fast. Automated WhatsApp or email follow-up sequences — even simple ones — recover a meaningful share of leads who'd otherwise go quiet. If you're also running an online store or marketplace listings alongside your coaching offer, the same lead-response logic applies; the recovery principles in our cart abandonment guide carry over almost directly.
A slightly more expensive lead who actually books and shows up beats ten cheap ones who don't.
What realistic timelines look like
Launch and learning timelines depend on account access, creative approvals, tracking quality, budget, and how much conversion data is available. Agree on a realistic test window before launch, review lead quality as well as cost, and avoid treating early results as a reliable forecast.
Sitting on a warm audience that isn't converting?
This is exactly what Manage & Grow covers — Meta Ads built around real buying intent, plus the automation to follow up on every lead.
